Science

We've been slowly working our way through The Magic School Bus Journey Inside the Body science kit. Overall, it had its highs and lows; some of the experiments were really fun, such as the one we just did on the inner ear. We did the activity as described, then Jack drew pictures in his science journal.

Other experiments didn't work as described, or didn't really demonstrate the concept. For example, the first experiment involved putting chicken bones in vinegar. First off, we used cider vinegar, which didn't really do much to the bones in the first 48 hours. Secondly, what does that teach about bones, unless you also explain about the chemical reaction between the acid and the calcium?

The best part of the kit by far was the life-size body poster with giant stick-on bones and organs.

Art Show

Today was the final meeting of the Young Artists class, part of BCCC's Enhance program. Jack really enjoyed the class, and hopefully we'll do some more next year.
